TORONTO, July 4, 2005 - The need to innovate has become accepted as fundamental to success in Canadian business, entries to the Canadian Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) reveal.
In announcing the names of 63 finalists for its 2005 awards, CIPA, the premier information-technology and innovation awards program in Canada, says the entries reveal that Canadian organizations in both the private and public sectors no longer assume that today's business methods will suffice for tomorrow. Innovation is a constant pursuit and is the primary strategic focus.
CIPA, now in its 13th year, was founded to encourage the strategic application of information technology as a means of raising Canadian productivity.
"What our entries are revealing today," CIPA President & CEO Norm Kirkpatrick said, "is that businesses and not-for-profit organizations alike no longer question the need for IT-based innovation as a productivity driver in their organizations. The question today is not, 'Should we innovate?' but simply, 'What works best?' The CIPA program is helping to answer that question by identifying Canadian success stories for others to emulate."
Michael E. Roach, President and Chief Operating Officer of CGI, Managing Sponsor of CIPA, agreed, adding, "The calibre of the finalists in the CIPA program and their significant achievements demonstrate the commitment of Canadian leaders to embrace change and seek 'best practices' solutions to better compete in a global marketplace. I look forward to celebrating their achievements that collectively build Canada's reputation as a global innovation leader."
Finalists in the 2005 CIPA competition were selected from more than 200 entries submitted from every region of Canada by organizations of all types and sizes. Finalists now advance to final judging by the CIPA National Judging Panel.
Winners will be selected for awards in four categories: efficiency and operational improvements; customer care; organizational transformation and environment-focused solutions. The winners will be celebrated at the CIPA Gala Banquet on November 1 in Toronto.
