TORONTO, May 13, 2002 - C.I.P.A. President and CEO Robert Livingstone has announced the appointment of Paul Nelson, one of Canada's most experienced information technology executives, as chair of the National Judging Committee.
Mr. Nelson will lead a team of 13 distinguished judges in selecting winners of the 2002 C.I.P.A. competition. He succeeds Jim Grant, president of international consulting firm C. G. James & Associates, who has retired after leading the National Judging Committee since its inception in 1992.
Mr. Nelson has held executive positions in the telecommunications, airline and rail industries. He retired from Rogers AT&T Wireless as the CIO and senior vice president information technology and has recently been named CIO of Visage Mobile, an aggressive Silicon Valley wireless startup located in Redwood Shores, California.
Active in industry associations, Mr. Nelson is a former vice-chairman of
the Canadian Business Telecommunications Alliance Executive Council and past
chairman of the Communications Competition Coalition. He was elected to the
Canadian Information Productivity Awards Hall of Fame in 1995 and his information
technology team at Rogers won two national productivity awards. Mr. Nelson
has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto Graduate School
of Engineering and The International Aviation Management Training Institute.
